Radio South was begun in 1976 by Steve Helms. Steve had recently left Kraft Systems, Inc. in California to pursue his own business, and created Radio South.as a full-service radio repair facility with full factory support.  Radio South was an immediate success, due to Steve’s influence in the pattern circuit. The business grew to 3 service techs quickly, and we also added a full hobby store into the business. In the early 1980’s, Steve moved to California to work for Futaba. At that time, Tony Stillman purchased the business.  In 2006, I decided to devote my time solely to the radio repair business, so I sold my hobby store that was part of Radio South.  In 2014, I moved to Muncie, IN to work full-time with AMA.  As a result, I had to change my  service hours to evenings.

I began flying R/C back in 1971. My modeling experience grew to include helicopters, pattern and fun-fly aircraft. I began involvement in pattern when I worked for Steve, and has been my obsession ever since. I placed 2nd at my first NATS in 1981 in Expert class. I was 2nd in Masters class at the 1990 NATS, and 3rd in Expert Turnaround at the 1991 NATS. I have CD’ed many pattern events including: 1983 World Championships  in Pensacola, FL  1989 US Masters Tournament, 1992 & 93 NATS, and the 1999 US Masters Tournament and the 1999 F3A World Championships (also in Pensacola, FL).  I am now moving into Giant Scale Warbirds, flying an F8F Bearcat, PT-17 Stearman and a JU87-B2 Stuka Dive Bomber.  More to come!

All of the above is said not to impress anyone, but to show you that I am familiar with equipment used by all of the top pattern pilots. This helps me to assist you in selecting and servicing the equipment that will best work for your model and your flying style.
